A discount is a reduction to a basic price of goods or services. Whether you have an abundance of a certain type of product, and you need to "get it off your shelves", or you want to increase short-term sales, you can do it by offering a discount.

What is a discount?
Discount is a deduction from the face amount of an invoice, made in advance of its payment.

There are many purposes for discounting. Discounts can be a form of sales promotion. You can reward valuable customers by offering them discounts that target this specific group.

Discounts can also be in a form of price discrimination, like offering discounts to students or the elderly.
